The City of Los Angeles process
North Hollywood is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits go through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) and zoning questions through the city planning department. LADBS operates a Valley office that serves this area. The process and fee structure differ from nearby independent cities such as Burbank and Glendale, and we plan accordingly. The city also offers ADU resources, including pre-reviewed standard plans in some cases; whether they suit your lot is something we check.
Neighborhood notes
The NoHo Arts District, centered around Lankershim Boulevard, brings denser development and a lively commercial mix, while surrounding residential streets tend to be quieter, with single-family homes and small multifamily buildings. Valley Village and Toluca Lake are close neighbors. On these flat lots, ADUs, additions and conversions are common ways to add space without moving.
Plan for Valley heat
Valley summers are hot. For additions, ADUs and garage conversions, insulation, window quality and a properly sized heating and cooling system affect comfort as much as square footage does.
