What we build
- Iron fencing for front yards, side yards and perimeter security
- Driveway gates: swing and sliding, with or without automation
- Pedestrian gates and entry gates with latches and locks suited to daily use
- Stair railings, interior and exterior
- Balcony guards and deck railings
- Decorative metalwork: window grilles, panels, house numbers and accent pieces
Design: from simple to ornate
Ironwork ranges from clean modern lines to traditional scrollwork. The right design relates to the architecture of the house. A Spanish-revival home in San Marino calls for different detailing than a mid-century ranch in Van Nuys. We help you choose proportions, picket spacing and finishes that suit the property.
Safety and code details that matter
Guards and railings are safety components. Building codes set minimum heights and limit the size of openings, so a small child cannot pass through, with a common benchmark being that a 4-inch sphere should not fit between balusters. Stair railings also have graspability and height requirements. Pool barriers have their own rules. We design to those requirements, because a railing that looks good but fails inspection is a problem.
Driveway gates
A gate that opens every day is a machine, and machines need to be planned. Swing gates need clearance and strong hinges. Sliding gates need track or cantilever systems and enough lateral space. Automation adds operators, safety sensors and power or solar options. Planning this early avoids retrofits.
- Gate type chosen for your slope, width and available space
- Posts and footings sized for gate weight
- Operator, keypad and remote access options when automation is wanted
- Safety sensors to protect people and vehicles
- Concrete and masonry work for piers and foundations, coordinated in-house
Finish and maintenance
Raw steel rusts. Durable ironwork depends on surface preparation, primer and a protective topcoat, or a galvanized or powder-coated finish where appropriate. In our area the usual culprits are strong sun and irrigation overspray hitting the metal. We discuss finish options and touch-up needs.
Working with the rest of your project
Ironwork often connects to other trades: footings and piers, stucco walls, driveway concrete, and painting. We coordinate all of that so the gate is not delivered before the posts are ready.
